Virgo is a mutable earth element. It’s a transition between Leo (me, myself and I) and Libra (me and you, me in a relationship, two of us).
That tells us that some adjustments have to be made in order to get from one to another. And Virgo is all about adjustments:) After discovering ourselves (Leo) we realize that if we want to evolve, we need to work on ourselves a little bit. And keyword for the Virgo is “perfection”. To be more precise: self-perfection. This is a source of Virgo’s well-known over criticism and other qualities that we know from pop-cultural, superficial analysis.
Virgo is co-ruled by Mercury which also rules Gemini. That means that there is some sort of connection between these two. Mercury rules mind and communication. It’s a fast-moving planet. Mercury in Gemini (air element) makes the mind fast learning. An effortless embracing the whole spectrum of different ideas, philosophies, and concepts. Virgo’s mind is much more practical and to the ground. Gemini “takes it all in”, Virgo discerns and selects what comes in and what does not. In order to do the selection efficiently, the mind and perception need to be particular and focused on details. If you focus on details you naturally slow down your pace. Going in. Examining carefully (EXa – MINING). Go step by step. Stick to the plan. Virgo’s mind is like a microscope. BTW we are now in Virgo time- western science (which is totally Virgo’s concept) is developing very fast. They are building microscopes that look deeper and deeper into the matter (that is so Virgo!). They go so deep that they are discovering that there is nothing there. And this “nothing” somehow creates everything. Enlightened masters were telling us this thousand of years ago, but the mind needs to get to this point from the side of senses and reason.
Another great way to look at the Zodiac sign is through its opposition. Opposing to Virgo we have the sign of Pisces. This archetype is about going back to the source through merging with the Absolute. Merging implies removing all the borders. Pisces are famous for being one with everybody, at least on the emotional level. Neptune blurs the lines of divisions, so Pisces are not sure if what they feel is actually theirs or someone else emotion. Virgo represents the opposite pole of this axis – being very much to the ground. Organizing physical and mental space, studying things. Distinguishment is Virgo’s second nature. The common opinion about the Virgos is that they can’t stand mess and they clean all the time. Even if that is a truth, do we understand where it comes from? Clean, organized space is easy to understand and has clear rules. We clean the room so we can see where the floor ends and where the wall begins. So space (also internal space) is functional.
