For me, the best way to understand the energy of the sign well is to observe nature. See how nature reflects that energy. Penetrating the atmosphere of this season with your feelings, with the heart. The shift from Leo to Virgo is a step from the full-on summer to the ending part of the summer or even the early begging of fall.
I was driving a car a few days ago and I saw dry leaves on the forest road. This was the first moment during that year when I have realized that this summer will soon end. In June or July, the end of summer seems to be so far away that we don’t even think about winter. It feels like it will never end. It is like being kids we haven’t been thinking about the old age. But it is coming and Virgo time for me brings that awareness- vacation will be soon over, and we have to go back to school. Young age will pass and we will get older. Things will not last forever. The time is running out, so let’s use it well.
When we approach the zodiac as the cycle of development, Leo is that part of our childhood when we are the “star” in the family. We are fearless, we attract attention, we are loud, we do pranks, we are very creative and have that “look at me” confidence. Virgo is a time when we have to step down from the Leo pedestal. We are coming to a realization that we can’t be like the whole life, we have to grow up and there are some things about us that we need to correct. We can look at this part of the cycle like this:
- Leo (creative self-centeredness, expressing, being-your-SELF)
- Virgo (critical self analyzes)
- Libra (meeting person as equal).
We need a critical look at ourselves before we can truly stand in front of another person and develop an equal relationship. Virgo is that step-down.
Virgo is one of the 2 signs ruled by Mercury. Gemini is an air element, masculine and external mode of Mercury. Virgo is an earth element, internal and feminine Mercury.
Mercury rules mind, communication, and 5 senses. Virgo’s mind works through distinction, selection, criticism, and organization. Gemini is a mind that moves very quickly. They learn new things very fast and easy, they know a bit about everything, and they know everybody. Gemini runs fast and “takes it all in” as it is. Virgo stops and starts looking at things very carefully, examine them deeply, and decide which information comes in which should be left out. Virgos are organizers.
In medical astrology, Virgo rules the stomach and this is a sensitive part of their bodies, Virgos are prone to indigestion. Again, the same principle: careful selection of what comes in and what is not.
